Observation As a Learning Tool

One of my jobs includes supervising student teachers for the small college in my town. Typically I have had my students in one of their first education courses so we have established the beginnings of a relationship. Then I have placed them with a variety of other teachers throughout their courses, hitting as many subjects and grade levels as possible to insure optimal match when I set them up for student teaching. Because we are a small community and because I taught in the school district for many years and worked as a professional development facilitator for several more, I have visited many classrooms and have a wide range of teacher-colleague-friends.
